I deleted the Facebook app from my phone today. …And before I get too deep into the weeds here, let me say that I understand the irony that this blog post I’m putting on my website is going to be reflected in my Facebook feed, and no doubt most of the people who read these words are going to find them because of facebook. I’ve …
Here’s a little factoid about me. I still have all but one of textbooks I used in college, I never “sold” any back to the bookstore. I enjoyed college, and REALLY enjoy learning in a university environment. Those books were a big part of my life for a few years and I knew that I still could use the knowledge they contained, so I put …
I’ve been meaning to do a piece on my experiences owning an electric car. But something happen tonight that just has to be shared now. While driving home late tonight a deer jumped out in front of me. American “white tail” deer are quite common in my rural community, and tend to be most active in the evening or early morning. For the most part …
According to the Whois records, I’ve own the domain “mckinleytabor.com” since September 12, 2001. I know this date to be inaccurate, because I remember EXACTLY what I was doing on September 12, 2001, and it wasn’t buying domain names… But in any case, I’ve had this domain for a long time, paying $200 a year back in the mid 1990s for it. The Internet Archive: …
In the past 72 hours it has been discovered that there is a major security flaw in Mac OSX 10.7.3. It deals specifically with the use of Legacy FileVault in OSX 10.7. Legacy FileVault is the older “Home Directory only” encryption used in Mac OSX 10.6.x and prior. Legacy FileVault would only be active in Mac OSX 10.7.x if you had enabled FileVault in 10.6.x (or prior), upgraded to 10.7, and then …
As I write this sitting at home, I am looking down at 3 and 4 bars of AT&T 3G!!! It would seem that AT&T has made good and turned on tower 310410-16920-206172994, which I believe is located in Tansi behind Hiawatha Lake. My house sits in the overlap between this new AT&T tower, and tower 310410-16030-62227 which is still EDGE (located near Central Baptist Church …
I just received my Asus Transformer Prime Android Tablet with Ice Cream Sandwich. Being a person who loves to customize my gadgets around a uniform theme, I started to create some custom wallpapers for my new device. I discovered quite quickly that switching between Landscape/Horizontal and Portrait/Vertical posed some interesting changes for creating custom wallpapers. This is especially true given the parallax scrolling ICS does …
This is an update to a few earlier articles concerning the status of the AT&T 3G network along the easter part of the Internet 40 Corridor in Tennessee. It would seem AT&T is slowly filling up the gap between Knoxville, TN and Lebanon, TN along I40. A year ago AT&T put out a press release indicating that they were building out 525 additional 3G cell sites. Within the …
Congress right now is considering two bills, that if passed will cripple the Internet in America. In the Senate it’s called the PROTECT IP Act, S.968. The House it’s called the Stop Online Piracy Act, H.R.3261.The rationale is that big media companies are lossing profits to “piracy”, so they have lobbied (i.e. bribed) congress to pass legislation to lock down the internet, spy on internet users, and take down websites they …
I have no ideal if anyone will ever need this, but I figure there is at least one person who is curious about the topic. So to that one sad person, thank you for reading my review. I have carried a 2 cell AA Mini-Maglite for 20+ years. It is the perfect flashlight to have on your belt for all those times when you need …
